Book Review

Keeper of the lost cities: Legacy

I recently completed reading the eight book in the 'Keeper of the lost cities' series. It is called 'Legacy', yet another long book with nearly 800 pages. Its genre is fantasy, and it is written by Shannon Messenger. The book was first published in the year 2019 by Simon & Schuster.

The main characters in this story are Sophie, the protagonist, Dex, Keefe, Fitz, Tam, Linh, Biana, Wylie, Stina, Marella and Maruca, her friends, the Black Swan, Grady and Edaline, Sophie’s adoptive parents, the Council, some of Sophie's bodyguards, Ro, Keefe's bodyguard, King Enki, the king of the dwarves. The antagonist group is the Neverseen, and Lady Gisela is its leader.

Shannon Messenger is an American author, known for writing the middle-grade series Keeper of the Lost Cities, which was a New York Times bestseller. She is also known for writing the Sky Fall series. Keeper of the Lost Cities won the 2017 Middle School/Junior High California Young Reader Medal.

A little about the plot - Sophie is on a quest to find her biological parents. But now the Council has appointed her and some of her friends Regents, and she is the leader of their team. Tam is forced to switch sides, and Sophie gets to know that the Neverseen know everything about her side now. She and her team are now training and doing their tasks. Every answer is proving dangerous for Sophie, and now she needs to stop Lady Gisela from completing Keefe's legacy.

This was an interesting book. There were many mysteries and secrets in this book. But I think the author could have included a little more about some friends of Sophie. I liked how there were many going-ons in the book. My favourite part was when I got to know Sophie's biological mother.

This book is recommended for readers of ages 9-13. The next book in this series is 'Unlocked', and it is book 8.5 in the series. It was launched recently - on 17th November. I'm waiting to get my hands on it.

I give this book 4.1 out of 5.
