Words we use that we have to explain to adults

These days, we use a lot of words and slang terms that our parents don't sometimes understand. In this write-up, I have written a small list of words and their meanings (which I am telling you on my own) that we use, but our parents don't understand -

Common things I found in almost all the books I read

Till date, I have read about 400 books. I wondered if there were things that were common to all these stories! Was there a formula? Were there elements without which a story would not look like a story? Etc. I started making mental notes and here are my findings.

In all books/stories, both long and short there are some things which I found common.

The Best Prank Ever

Even though April Fool’s Day is already over, it doesn’t mean that playing harmless pranks is forbidden. So, it doesn’t matter if you and your classmate or best friends are indulging in some pranks — pranking can be fun either way. This prank was the first and only prank I have played on someone, and it was VERY FUNNY. And it was also so easy to pull off.

My favourite meal when I go out to eat

I am a hardcore foodie and love to try different cuisines as often as possible. Same is the case with my family, due to which it enables us to enjoy eating out together at least once a week. Some of my favourite dishes are dosas, subway sandwiches, paneer etc. But what I like the most is a Chinese buffet meal and the dish that I relish the most is sushi. It is simply excellent and healthy. In case you don't know, sushi is like a ball which is completely flat from the top and the bottom. It is made up of rice wrapped by a sheet called a nori sheet, and you can put any vegetables and fillings you want in the centre. I call it “My little parcel of joy”.

What kind of personal cars will people have in the future?

For the last few years, the air pollution level is very high and the government is trying everything they can to reduce it. Cars are one of the main causes of pollution as they emit lots of pollutants and gases which are harmful to the air making it non-breathable for humans, the main inhabitant of th planet earth.

As a first step to cleanse the air, the government is saying that within 15 years, all petrol and diesel cars will be banned and only electric cars will be used. According to me, people will have only electric cars in the future.

Every Cloud has a Silver Lining
Yes! I did not miss the school during Lockdown.

Ever since I read the idiom, ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’ I have wondered about it, really? Covid – 19 made me not just learn the meaning of it properly, I actually experienced it.

It specially became more meaningful as due to Covid-19 everything had to be shut down – schools, colleges, markets, malls, religious places, parks, restaurants, theatres, play arcades, anything and everything outside of our homes. No social visits, meeting friends or relatives, no celebrations etc. A complete lockdown had been declared. What a dark cloud hung over us, with no silver lining anywhere.

If I Got To Live Forever

If I got an option to live forever, I would refuse it, as it would be very boring. If I fall from a building or have an accident, I would not die but would have a lot of injuries. I would become old and would not be able to do any work. I would be all lonely without any friends or family. If World War 3 starts, I would have to see the whole, horrible thing. I would have to drink liquid as there would be no teeth left and I would be very weak. If the whole world dies out, I would be the only person left. If I am too weak I would not be able to take a bath and would smell so bad that people would stay out of my room and nobody would want to come near me. I would be 500 or maybe more years old and live in an old age home. As technology is fast taking over, I think after a few years, robots would conquer humans. They would take out my brain, cut my heart, preserve my organs etc. to understand my species and and I’ll still be alive, behaving like a crazy person. So, I choose to have a normal life, being born, I choose to die as well.

Watching Harry Potter movies, reading story books,
Always understood and never mistook.
Mango, strawberry, watermelon and litchi,
Eating sushi with Nani and Ma-si.
Summer and summer vacations, school and studying,
Keyboard, moon-ball and outings,
Lawn tennis, cricket, ping-pong and smashing
These are few of my favourite things.

My Dinosaur

I have a dinosaur at my home which is a T-Rex,
He ate a Crocin (a whole strip, mind you)
Why? you’d ask
Hungry, hungry - ‘cos he is always hungry
Yuck! he said and puked it right back -----
Causing a big puddle, drowning the world
Then he jumped and shook the earth
People screamed – EARTHQUAKE! EARTHQUAKE! EARTHQUAKE!

What was one of your favorite toys as a kid?

Do you still enjoy playing with it?
How would you make it more age appropriate for playing with it now?
I loved playing with toys when I was little and even now, I enjoy playing with them sometimes. My favourite toy as a kid were the Legos. Legos are small colorful blocks which come with an instruction manual. The manual carries instructions for building various objects using the colorful Lego blocks. One can join the blocks and make different vehicle objects like cars, fire brigades and spaceships; buildings like police stations, fire stations and houses, etc. what I really like about the Lego sets was the fact that in each set, extra pieces of blocks were provided in case a piece gets lost or broken. They are also some theme-based Legos such as Star Wars, Jurassic world, Harry Potter, etc. Then there are some sets called ‘Technic’ which are working models like pull- back cars, working cranes, etc. They are my favourite sets. But if a model, whose extra pieces are not given, is broken, then the whole set goes waste. It happened to me once while making a Technic set. They take a lot of time and patience to make. I had gathered around 10-12 sets of Lego to play with just a couple of years back.
